I’m back in the UK now visiting family for the first time in seven years. The timing of this final is perfect, as it falls right in the middle of our trip. I’ll be going with my son, Liam, 7, who is attending only his second Blues match (Barnsley at home being his first, so I now have the difficult job of managing his expectations that we don’t score six goals every game!) and my dad, who introduced me to the club all those years ago.
Three generations at Wembley - it doesn’t get more special than that.
It would mean everything to lift that trophy. To share that with my son and my dad… it’s the kind of moment that stays with you for a lifetime. After all these years watching from the other side of the world, to finally be there in person - at Wembley of all places - and potentially witness another historic moment, would be incredible.
It’s not just a football match; it’s a reunion with a huge part of my identity. Win or lose, Sunday is going to be one of those unforgettable days.
As for what Birmingham City means to me, t’s family, it’s home. It’s something that’s been constant through decades of life changes, continents, highs and lows.
Being a Blues fan isn’t always easy, but it’s always worth it. This club is in my bones, and it always will be.
